Vegan72   Richmond’s First Plant-Powered Weekend

Vegan Action is hosting Richmond, Virginia’s first ever vegan restaurant challenge January 26-28, 2018! The number of people eating plant-based foods has risen 500% since 2014, but so many restaurants do not feature vegan options. We know Richmond chefs are up to the task of creating exciting plant-based menu items, so we’ve challenged area restaurants to flex their skills with special vegan options for this weekend only. Restaurants will create appetizer, entree, dessert and brunch selections for V72 throughout the weekend. In addition, we’re also celebrating our city’s amazing, existing plant-based offerings.  Some venues will donate a percentage of their Vegan72 sales to FeedMore – the Central Virginia Food Bank.

We will have a passport listing each location – collect a sticker from at least 4 locations and get a complementary vegan donut at Sugar Shack!

For lunch choose from Jackfruit Pazolke, Grapefruit and Avocado Tartare, Roasted Butternut Squash sandwich, Falafel on Pita or Fried Piri Piri Cauliflower sandwich. And for dinner, choose from Pastrami Tempeh, Grapefruit and Avocado Tartare, Artichoke Cakes, or Mushroom Tempeh Bourgingon!

Fresca on Addison – featuring house-made seitan steak with creamy yellow grits, roasted brussels sprouts, and tamari mustard sauce.

Go Go Vegan Go – featuring their famous PadThai fries, fish tacos, and mac and cheese!

GWARbar – featuring fried artichokes and Korean BBQ stir-fry in addition to their all-time favorites: Buffalo Cauliflower and the Hail Seitan sandwich!

Harrison St. Cafe – featuring upside down seitan potpie.

Lamplighter Roasting Co. – featuring vegan croissants at Summit and Morris St. locations and various specials at Addison and Morris locations.

Mean Bird – featuring vegan chicken and waffles, crispy banana with sweet chili sauce, and bluberry & lime turnover!

Postbellum- featuring Baked Stuffed Mushrooms – Rudy’s crimini mushrooms filled with duxelle, cauliflower cream and toasted walnuts, Beyond Meatballs – Grandma’s meatball recipe, roasted pepper marinara, angel hair, Streusel Pear Pie – spiced pears topped with toasted almond streusel, drizzled w apple butter caramel, AND Quiche w/roasted peppers and spinach for brunch available on Saturday and Sunday.

The Savory Grain a Spaghetti Squash dinner entree this weekend and several delicious salads.

The Good Leaf – featuring all vegan soup, all weekend!  Roasted Virginia butternut squash soup, tomato basil, and chili.

Perly’s Restaurant & Delicatessen – featuring the Soy Vey sandwich – pastrami seitan with vegan liptauer cheese and mustard on rye or Chopped Chicken Lover special – black-eye pea mock chopped chicken liver.

Saadia’s Juice Box – featuring Green Goddess Bowl – a Smoothie bowl packed with chia seeds, Almond Butter, Coconut Milk,Spinach and Oranges, Hummus Toast – House-made Hummus Toast with Pickled Jalapeños topped with Persian Salad Shirazi, and Toasted Coconut Latte – Espresso (option of soy, coconut, or almond milk) all unsweetened organic topped off with our homemade Vegan Coconut Whip cream.

Strange Matter – in addition to the Vegan Black Metal Chef Cooking Demo, featuring vegan pimento cheese – sandwich or with pita chips.

Secco Wine Bar – featuring house-made vegan sofficini with cashew ricotta.

Sugar Shack Donuts  – don’t forget to bring your passport with four or more stickers to Sugar Shack and get a free vegan donut!
